Nigeria is a globally recognised strategic growth market for Edrington, with The Macallan positioned as a future game-changer. Reporting to the Head of Commercial MEAI, the Senior Area Manager oversees volume, profitability, marketing spend, and commercial investment, while leading teams across Nigeria and Ghana. The role involves direct market investment, senior-level collaboration with the distributor, and cross-functional engagement to drive ultra-premium brand performance. It also includes managing distributor relationships across West & Central Africa, with a focus on The Macallan and growth strategy development for Highland Park.

The role leads two teams:

  • Nigeria Team covering Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt 
  • Ghana Team with a remit covering Ghana, Togo, Morocco, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Gabo

This is a 3 year fixed term contract.

Make an Impact

  • Lead and develop teams across Nigeria & WACA, ensuring optimal structure and performance.
  • Translate global brand strategies into local plans to drive accelerated growth.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting in collaboration with trade partners.
  • Monitor commercial performance and market insights to track progress against targets.
  • Ensure accurate value chains and reporting of sales volumes and marketing spend.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance on distribution agreements (non-signatory role).
  • Represent Edrington in local spirits associations and external stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive brand protection efforts, particularly around intellectual property.
  • Align A&P and selling cost plans with marketing and sales strategies.
  • Strengthen distributor and trade partner engagement to achieve market KPIs.
  • Travel across WACA to gather commercial and competitive intelligence.
  • Conduct strategic reviews and assess distribution landscape and competition.
  • Collaborate with global support teams to enhance market performance and reporting.

Your Talent and Skills

To be successful in this role, you are educated to degree level, ideally in a business or management-related field, and bring extensive experience in commercial management and people development within an international organisation. You have a strong understanding of the distribution landscape, route to market, and competitive environment—ideally gained in an FMCG multinational or spirits company (however not essential). Your communication skills, both written and verbal, are excellent, and fluency in English is essential, with French proficiency preferred over time. You’re confident using Excel and other digital tools, and possess outstanding interpersonal and networking abilities. You thrive in managing multiple priorities, are delivery-focused, and capable of working independently across diverse locations. You’re a strong team player who values diverse perspectives and understands how to blend individual strengths to achieve shared goals. In your role, you consistently demonstrate Edrington’s standards: you inspire others, embrace change, collaborate openly, engage with empathy and respect, and deliver with resilience and accountability.
