Position Summary
Reporting to the Whisky Supply Manager the role is responsible for delivering successful management and leadership within the Whisky Supply Department in conjunction with the other departmental Team Leaders. The role is mainly responsible for managing the scheduling aspects of spirit and cask handling encompassing the following :-managing a key team of production operators in supply of whisky for bottling , resourcing for filling of new make spirit for maturation and the filling of mature spirit for racking, seasoning, or marrying , the workload associated with receipting and removal of both filled and empty casks on site , The management of 16 maturation warehouses which hold approx. 60,000 casks, The warehouse removal plan for disgorging of casks for bottling, racking, and blending.
The Whisky Supply department has responsibility for handling large quantities of high value spirit therefore the Team Leader must ensure all operations are carried out to a high-quality standard, in a safe manner complying with all regulations whilst following strict protocols to protect the commercial value of the spirit.
Job Description
Day to day you will be responsible for the following:
Quality
- Challenge, improve and update existing processes and protocols on a regular basis whilst collaborating with key stakeholders.
- Ensure product quality is achieved and all protocols are followed within the department, collaborating with Liquid Quality where appropriate.
Cost
- Manage the stock levels , spends and usage of key consumables ensuring adherence to budget
- Manage labour costs and minimise overtime spend through collaboration with Whisky Supply Team Leaders and the optimisation of processes.
- Support the Whisky Supply Manager to deliver the annual CAPEX plan and to create the 5-year plan.
Delivery
- Manage all key cask handling processes taking place within the dept. , filtration processing and receipt and HMRC compliance leading to full stock accountability.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders eg. Whisky Planning, Macallan, Buchley, The Cooperage and Whisky Making team to ensure the monthly plan is delivered.
- Ensuring prompt and efficient monitoring and reporting of progress against plan through the delivery of monthly KPIs.
People
- Lead, develop and coach a team including Coopers, Production Coordinators, and General Workers.
- Carry out operator appraisals and hold regular 1:1’s with team.
- Carry out disciplinaries, grievances and investigations.
- Organise day to day activities of the team.
Skills and Experience
The successful applicant will have excellent man management skills, with a positive attitude and demeanour. Strong influencing and communication skills are key for this role where good knowledge of manufacturing environments, lean manufacturing tool and techniques are desirable. The successful candidate will have great organisational skills with the ability to work cross functionally across the organisation. To be successful you must have strong leadership skills and have the appetite to challenge the status quo.
