The Junior Software Developer role focuses on IBMi technology, supporting our Stock System and Database, a critical asset undergoing continuous strategic improvement. While modern agile practices, tools, and technologies are driving its evolution from a "legacy" platform, this role calls for a flexible, committed individual eager to develop technical, analytical, and soft skills to ensure its ongoing success.
Make an Impact
Reporting to the Principal Software Engineer, work will typically be undertaken with the guidance and support of more senior team members specialising in this area – typical activities include:
- The analysis and exploration of new business needs with key stakeholders
- Coding and Implementation of changes using RPGILE, SQL
- Testing, Code Review and release
- Resolving problems and Incidents
Your Talent and Skills
Full training will be provided for this role, but a relevant education or experience in software engineering is essential. To be successful, candidates should have a degree or HNC level education, or equivalent experience, demonstrating high numeracy and analytical skills. Proficiency in email systems and Microsoft Office is required. Candidates should be self-aware, adaptable, and positive, eager to grow in a rapidly evolving environment. Quick learning ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality work are crucial. The role requires effective communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, quickly building rapport with customers. It would be advantageous to have knowledge of any of the following technologies: SQL and Relational Databases, GIT, Azure,Rest Api’s, Stored Procedures, Programming Experience. It would also be ideal if you have experience of working in a technology role, such as a service desk, or software development.
