Embrace Excellence

The Macallan Cask Operations team plays a critical role in delivering exceptional quality casks for our ultra-premium brands by taking control of our Sherry cask supply chain, where we are signifcantly investing in Coopers Oak, Tevasa Forestal Group, Vasyma and Grupo Estevez to transform Cask Supply for all brands and business units.

To realise all the benefits of that substantial investment, we are now entering a period of significant transition as we move from a third-party supply model to a fully integrated end-to-end internal supply chain that sources its own high quality American and European Oak, manufactures high quality casks, and seasons those casks with high quality sherry wine from our own vineyards. This will drive both product quality and brand provenance benefits as well as strengthening our cask sustainability credentials.

This role will report to the Director of Cask Operations and has responsibility for driving the health and safety (H&S), engineering and environmental agenda for our cask operations, covering 3 Sawmills (Lugo, Cantabria and Ohio), 3 cooperages, wine making facilities and a large range of bodegas across Jerez. Travel will be required in this role.

The focus of this role will be managing all H&S and engineering matters across all activities and locations, identifying any compliance gaps and engineering improvements to ensure compliance with Group requirements. In addition, this role will ensure the delivery of any changes and key projects as well as overseeing the activities of our key partners to ensure compliance with H&S and environment standards, providing best practice expertise on engineering requirements and development.

This is a critical role that must drive key cultural and operating change in our cask operations to ensure safety of our processes and people, as well as enhancing our operating processes and equipment to drive manufacturing quality, and ensuring operational efficiencies across our cask supply chain.

Make an Impact

  • Performing H&S and environmental risk assessments to identify any compliance gaps and key improvements, across our fully owned businesses and across our business partners.
  • Proposing improvements to ensure safety, quality and potential operational efficiencies across all areas of cask operations, including our sawmills, cooperages and bodegas.
  • Managing and coordinating with any internal or external third parties any H&S, environmental and engineering projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with both group and local environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements, including identifying and driving the resolution of any non-compliances, and the implementation of any new regulatory requirements across all our cask operations.
  • Providing engineering expertise and best practice and improvements in our Spanish operations sites, identifying improvements and efficiencies in the flow of work, equipment and maintenance, and project management of any engineering developments.
  • Incident reporting and investigation, risk assessments and safe systems of work, and management of H&S, environmental and engineering KPIs.
  • Lead EHSE function across all the sites. Develop, and support business compliance with Spanish/EU legislation, particularly ATEX compliance, machinery safety and maintenance, and other relevant international standards.

Your Talent and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have a background or degree in engineering, and solid experience of working within an EHSE role in the industry or within manufacturing. We need an individual who has strong influencing skills and the ability to communicate to all levels of the Company. In-depth knowledge of EHSE legislation and EHSE management systems is a must-have, as well as proficiency in English. Our ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and be adept at building and maintaining relationships with colleagues at all levels.

We’ve put together some criteria that we think is important for this role, but don’t worry if your experience and expertise isn’t an exact match. If you feel that you can add value to our role and to Edrington more broadly, we would welcome your application and be eager to learn more about you
