Embrace Excellence
Assistant Sales Manager is responsible for supporting the growth and development of the company’s whisky portfolio in the off-trade channel, with a focus on key retail and wholesale accounts. This role manages customer relationships, drives sales performance, and ensures strong execution of brand and commercial objectives across accounts.
Reporting to the Senior Sales Manager, this position works closely with internal stakeholders including marketing, trade marketing, supply chain, customer service, and finance to ensure smooth business operations and high service standards. The role also represents the brands externally through customer engagement activities such as whisky tastings, trade presentations, and customer dinners / events.
Make an Impact
Sales & Account Management
- Manage and grow assigned off-trade accounts to achieve sales volume, value, and distribution targets.
- Identify opportunities for growth within existing and new accounts to boost sales of The Macallan, Highland Park, and The Glenrothes.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with key customers, buyers, store managers, and business partners.
- Conduct regular account assessments and develop strategic business plans to improve performance and increase product visibility.
- Negotiate trading terms, promotional activities, pricing, and commercial agreements in accordance with company policies.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer performance to evaluate risks and opportunities.
Customer Relationship Management
- Develop long-term customer partnerships through consistent communication, business reviews, and engagement.
- Provide outstanding customer service and act as the primary contact for all account-related matters.
- Maintain thorough follow-up and relationship management to support repeat business and enhance brand loyalty.
- Represent the company professionally in all customer interactions.
Brand Advocacy & Consumer/Customer Engagement
- Lead whisky tastings, product presentations, and brand education sessions for customers and trade partners.
- Support the planning and execution of customer dinners, brand events, and trade activation initiatives.
- Serve as a brand ambassador for the whisky portfolio, showcasing comprehensive product knowledge and premium brand representation.
- Effectively communicate brand stories, product heritage, tasting notes, and key selling points to customers.
Internal Coordination & Cross-Functional Communication
- Work closely with internal teams such as marketing, trade marketing, supply chain, finance, and customer service to ensure successful sales plan execution.
- Coordinate forecasting, order follow-up, stock management, promotional activities, and issue resolution.
- Ensure timely communication of customer needs, market insights, and business updates to relevant internal stakeholders.
- Prrepare sales reports, account updates, and performance analyses for management review.
Operational & Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate sales records, account plans, forecasts, and customer activity reports.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, pricing guidelines, and commercial procedures.
Your Talent and Skills
Knowledge
- Experience in sales/account management, preferably within wines & spirits, FMCG, beverage, or premium consumer goods.
- Good understanding of the off-trade channel, including retail, supermarkets, specialty stores, and wholesalers.
- Knowledge of the whisky category is preferred; passion for premium spirits is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with sales reporting, forecasting, and commercial planning.
