Position Summary

As a key member of the UK Engineering Team and primary production Site Management Teams, the Engineering Manager role has responsibility for the Engineering North team based at The Macallan Estate and Highland Park.  This role is responsible for tactical decisions directly relating to Engineering activities which rely on process, civil and compliance engineering input across our various 24/7 operations.  The role is also involved in strategic decisions in conjunction with the Operations Director, Head of UK Engineering, and other key stakeholders to deliver exceptional Engineering support across the distillery network, including all of our visitor experience facilities.

Job Description

The Engineering Manager North is responsible and accountable for delivering the highest standards of engineering support, development, maintenance, and installation which meet both operational requirements, compliance, and operational standards. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach and develop Engineering Process, Project, Compliance and Site Services teams
  • Deliver proactive Engineering support to customers across primary production operational sites with focus on Quality, Service, Resilience and Sustainability
  • Manage KPI’s to ensure delivery and alignment with wider Global Supply Chain and business objectives
  • Developing effective, best practice processes and procedures via a continuous improvement culture to achieve maximum plant/ equipment efficiency and effectiveness across our 24/7 operations
  • Ensure that all process plant/ equipment, and infrastructure is proactively maintained, inspected, and tested to facilitate safe operation and compliance with our industry and regulatory obligations
  • Responsibility for the maintenance, inspection, and testing of all process plant/ equipment and upkeep of all building and infrastructure across primary production operational sites
  • Ownership and planning of annual Engineering North Overhead and Repair & Maintenance spend and 5yr & 10yr Capital Expenditure plans for UK GSC Operations – with specific focus on primary production

Skills and Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have extensive knowledge and detailed understanding of process and production environments, with analytical skills that include the ability to assess and interpret engineering data with a highly systematic and logical approach.  You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, in an engineering/science discipline.  You will have demonstrable experience in an appropriate leadership environment where you have shown a passion for leading and developing people to perform to their very best.


Technically you will have in depth knowledge of engineering in a production process environment with particular focus on spirit distillation.  Expert knowledge of engineering compliance, health & safety legislation and associated best practice is a prerequisite. Strong financial and commercial skills including use of financial management systems is advantageous, as is having strong Project Management skills, able to deliver complex business projects within agreed budget and timescales.  Being digitally literate and passionate about your field of expertise and a brilliant people person are fundamental enablers to success.
