Position Summary

 The Cask Stock Team Leader is responsible for storage and delivery of both sherry and refill wood, which includes Cask Shed and the external storage areas at Rothes and Macallan.  Day to day supervision and leadership of a team of 6 Cooperage Operators, ensuring they are fully aware of operational requirements and duties to be performed.  Responsible for Delivery of required casks to customers.  Liaise with Cooperage Team Leader and Planning Team Leader to ensure efficient operation of the entire Cooperage function.

Job Description

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • This role will have responsibility for managing cask shed operators within the Macallan Cooperage.
  • Ensure a supply of casks to Cooperage to ensure that their time is fully utilised with no waiting time.
  • Movement of casks to production e.g. liaise with internal and external suppliers and customers to ensure the needs of the Distilleries and Filling Stores are met.
  • Control of all third party stock entering the supply chain.
  • Work with New Make Spirit team, Macallan Warehousing to ensure casks are at the required standard and fit to fill.
  • Management of external contractors as required within cooperage operational areas.
  • Off-loading, storage and rotation of sherry casks for Macallan and HD.
  • Ensuring stock levels are accurate.
  • Operate specific machines used within the department e.g., counterbalance, reach trucks, and related attachments, and tractor/trailer.
  • Ensure adherence of self and team to all Company H&S Policies and Procedures
  • Accurate use of Cask Tracking system for team and self.  Responsibility for accurate stock data for cask storage areas.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence across the cooperage operations.
  • Liaise with Engineering and Site Services to ensure FLT, Tractor and Telehandler in good working order.
  • Support the management of the overall Macallan Cooperage team budget.
  • Provide a 24hr on call service on a rota basis.
  • Ensure site service security controls are adhered to.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have previous experience within a warehousing and/or production environment.  Previous knowledge of coopering or whisky industry would be advantageous.  You will have strong H&S awareness and suitable qualifications i.e. IOSH Managing Safely and awareness of environmental regulations. Cask Handling experience is desirable but not essential.  You will be an experienced people manager, with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel and strong planning and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.  Good problem solving skills and ability to take an innovative approach when appropriate.  Confident and competent in running team meetings and motivating people. Full clean driving licence is desired as you will be required to travel between our sites.
